Sharp Develops 100GB Optical Disc
July 14, 2005
Sharp has developed a dual-layer optical disc using blue laser, which has a storage capacity of 100Gb. This capacity is four times larger than the single-layer disc of the same kind and amounts to nine hours of high-definition television video. Sharp developed a so-called transparent "super-resolution functional film", which uses metal oxide and offers high light transmittance, in order to reach the 100Gb capacity. The newly developed disc was to be introduced at the ISOM (International Symposium on Optical Memory) / ODM (Optical Data Storage) meeting in Honolulu, which ran from July 10 to July 14.
